Physiological Action of Drosera

This agent is an antispasmodic, sedative and expectorant. Its action is upon the respiratory organs, where is produces a dry, irritating, spasmodic cough.

THERAPEUTICS of Drosera

This remedy is indicated in a SPASMODIC, explosive COUGH, when dryness of the air passage, and in case of PERTUSSIS when the paroxysms of cough follow each other in such rapid succession that the patient can hardly breathe. The cough is deep, hoarse and worse after midnight.

It should also be remembered in the cough that accompanies or follows MEASLES; it is deep, hoarse and rasping. For the irritating cough of children beginning as soon as their head reaches the pillow, it is serviceable; also, for the chronic sore throat of clergymen, when there is a rough, scraping, dry sensation in the fauces. The voice is deep, hoarse, toneless and requires much effort to speak.

It should be remembered in LARYNGEAL PHTHISIS when there is rapid emaciation and the laryngeal symptoms of this remedy are present.

Drosera Rotundifolia (Dros) is indicated for-

Whooping cough. Laryngeal phthisis.

Paroxysms of cough following each other very rapidly, with bleeding from nose and retching, < after midnight.

Deep hoarse voice. Asthma when talking.

Vertigo with inclination to fall on the left side.

MIND symptom of Drosera:

-Delusions of persecution. Imagines he was being deceived by spiteful, envious people.

-Anxiety < night on waking, when alone, RESTLESSNESS. Anxiety as if his enemies would not leave him quiet.

-Sadness when alone, anxiety in solitude. Wants company.
Peevish; a trifle puts him out of humour.

-Inclination to drown himself.

GUIDING INDICATIONS:

-Violent, spasmodic effects in larynx and chest.

-Bleeding from various orifices, especially when coughing.

-Phthisical patients, young consumptives who suffer from spasmodic coughs, WHOOPING COUGHS.

-Cough-(Cina) SPASMODIC, DEEP SOUNDING, HOARSE, BARKING (VERB) < after MIDNIGHT. NOCTURNAL COUGH.

-Prolonged PERIODICAL FITS OF CHOKING COUGH – Compels him to hold sides of chest.

-Cough with gagging, retching and vomiting (Kali-c, Bry). Cold and sweating.

-COUGH BEGINS AS SOON AS HEAD TOUCHES PILLOW AT NIGHT (Bell, Hyos, Rumx, Croto-t) < after midnight from laughing, singing, drinking, talking.

-Sensation of constriction in chest while coughing.

-Respiratory system-Clergy man’s sore throat with rough scraping sensation, voice deep, toneless, cracked.

– Sensation of FEATHER in LARYNX.

– Asthma when talking with contraction of the throat at every word uttered [ Spong, Stann, Mang].

– LARYNGEAL PTHISIS FOLLOWING – WHOOPING COUGH.

– Tuberculosis, sinusitis, Pleurisy.

– Endocrines- Exophthalmic goitre.

-One of the effective remedies in whopping cough, in patients with tubercular diathesis.

-Useful in cough after measles and in all types of tuberculosis – Chest, larynx, bones and joints.
