Hepar Sulphuris Calcareum (Hep) is indicated for Oversensitiveness (mental and physical), Strong violent impulses, Abusive,  Sepsis, abscess, suppuration, Splinter-like, burning pains, Chilly, Intolerant to drafts.

Physiological

This agent acts upon the glandular system, Producing enlargement with a tendency to suppuration. The resistance of the tissues in general to pathogenic bacteria is lowered. Given in the lower attenuations, It will hasten suppuration; as a result the skin is rendered unhealthy and there are catarrhal conditions of the mucous membranes. There is a binaural hyper sensitiveness established to touch, pain and cold air; this may be mental when the patient is displayed with himself, as well as others.

THERAPEUTICS

This remedy is indicated in LYMPHATIC, SCROFULOUS SUBJECTS WITH LIGHT HAIR AND COMPLEXION AND WITH A SOFT, FLABBY MUSCLE. THEY CRAVE STRONG ACID FOODS ARE PEEVISH, EASILY ANGERED AND VARY SENSITIVE TO ALL IMPRESSIONS, CHILLS LIGHTEST DRAFT FAINTS FROM THE PAIN AND CANNOT BEAR TO BE TOUCHED PHYSICALLY OR MENTALLY; MAY OF THE PATIENTS ARE SUFFERING FROM THE MERCURY.

It should be remembered where SUPPURATION is THREATENED as in furuncles carbuncles and abscesses, that are characterized by furuncles, carbuncles and abscesses, that are characterized by throbbing, sticking pains. The patient is sensitive to touch, to cold air or to cold applications. If given low (1x) it will favour suppuration; if given in a higher potency it often prevents suppuration.

It is valuable in MOIST ERUPTIONS in general; they suppuration and bleed and give an offensive odor; also in ONYCHIA and FELONS when there is suppuration, swelling and tension and great sensitive. The pain is severe and is of a sticking character and is relieved by heat or hot applications; also in pompholyx when there is burning and soreness of the parts and as new lesion from and coalesce, sharp suppurative pains are felt. These lesions excoriate, bleed easily and heal slowly; they spread by new infected points appearing just beyond the diseased part.

It should be remembered in ACUTE RHINITIS when the patient complains that a slight draft or exposure of any kind produced one attack another. The nose is swollen and sensitive due to small pustules inside the alae of the nose. It is still to be remembered when this condition has become chronic and the tonsils have become involved as is observed in the scrofulous catarrhs of childhood. The discharge is purulent stringy and even bloody, and the patient complains of cold on sight exposures.

It is an important remedy in ACUTE and CHRONIC CATARRHAL LARYNGITIS in the acute form; it is a member of that important tried. Aconite, Spongia and Hepar, when catarrhal croup is present; the cough is rattling in character, The patient coughs till he chokes. In the more chronic from the patient is apt to be of the tubercular type, takes cold easily. There is hoarseness with a rough, barking cough, the expectoration is muco – purulent in character, tenacious and raised with difficulty.

It should be studied in TRACHEITIS and CHRONIC BRONCHITIS when the cough is loose and rattling in character and respiration is harsh and wheezing. There is soreness of the chest a tendency to take cold. If he uncovers the cough is worse; the perspiration has a sour odor.

It is a useful remedy in PNEUMONIA during the stage of resolution, expectoration is purulent and abscesses are threatened; also in broncho – pneumonia when there is much mucus in the bronchial tubes, but it is difficult to raise; the coughing cause nausea and perspiration, is so susceptible to cold that a draft or eating or drinking cold food precipitates the coughing.

It is valuable in EMPYEMA when drainage has been established. The patient is over – sensitive both mentally and physically; the pus is foul a hectic fever is present, he is emaciated and has repeated attacks of chilliness, fevers and sweats which are profuse and offensive.

It should be remembered in CHRONIC HEPATITIS and in ABSCESSES and repeated attacks of chilliness, fever and sweats which are profuse and offensive.

It should be remembered in CHRONIC HEPATITIS and in ABSCESSES of the liver and kidneys when there is a vent for the pus but the toxic symptoms persist.

It has a place in the management of tuberculosis when the leading indications of the remedy are present.

In disease of the eye there is a tendency to suppuration, as BLEPHARITIS when the meibomian glands are involved; in HYPOPYON when there is photophobia and relief by heat.

It is to be studied during the AC. GASTRITIS when there is a great desire for acids, vinegar and spices; there is a desire for highly s; nausea in the morning and acid eructations. The patient is peevish, easily angered and vary sensitive to all impressions. This condition is often observed after the prolonged abuse of mercury and quinine.

MIND:

-Oversensitiveness (physical or mental), to cold, pain, touch, noise, odours, draught of air.

-Faints from pain.

-Peevish, highly impulsive. Impulse to stab or kill.

-Anguish in evening and night, with thoughts of suicide.

-Irritable and dissatisfied with oneself and others.

-Starting on falling asleep.

-Agoraphobia.

-Fear and dreams of fire. Wants to set things or house on fire. Throws things into fire.

-Fear on hearing of violent accidents or movies; injury; dentist.

GUIDING INDICATIONS:

-Intense sensitivity to pain.

-Suppuration-tendency for all inflammations to terminate in suppuration.

-Suppuration sudden and rapid.

-Here, connective tissue is affected (Graph, Merc, Sil).

– Chilliness.

-Extreme sensitiveness to cold air.

-Takes cold from slightest exposure to fresh air.

-Can feel air if door is opened in next room (Tub).

-Pains-sore, sticking, like sharp splinters (sensation of splinter in parts).

-Discharges- profuse, foul, sour, like spoiled cheese, offensive.

-Sourness- diarrhoea of children, perspiration.

-Sweat- easy, profuse, sour, but dose not uncover, without relief.

-Periodicity-everyday, every 4 weeks (paralysis), every 4 months, winter, spring, autumn.

-Persons with light hair and complexion, slow to act, muscles soft and flabby. Yellowish complexion, middle of lower lip cracked.

-Head-Sensation as if a plug or nail were being driven into head.

-A feeling as if the eyes were being pulled backward into head.

-> binding head up tightly.

-Eyes-Iritis. Blepharitis.

-Corneal ulcers.

-Eruptions on eyelids.

-Ears-Severely painful otitis media, child cannot be comforted, wakes up with pain, shrieking.

-Mouth-Teeth-loose, sore, sensitive to cold drinks, abscesses at roots of teeth.

-G.I.T.-Craving for sour, strong things, acids, wine, vinegar, pickles, spicy, pungent.

-Aversion to fat food.

-Diarrhoea -chronic, painless, white or clay coloured, green or undigested, sour or decayed odour.

-Even soft stool is passed slowly and with difficulty.

-Eructations and flatus smelling like bad eggs.

-Rectal abscess.

-Respiratory system-Recurrent bronchitis from every cold.

-Asthma-anxious, wheezing, rattling, short, deep breathing, threatens suffocation.

-> sitting up with head bent backwards.

-Asthma from suppressed eruptions.

-Cough-when any part of the body is uncovered, croupy, choking, strangling; deep, barking cough with hoarseness < cold things, < cold air.

-Sensation of splinter in throat, stitches in throat extending to ear when swallowing.

-Urinary system-Urine-is voided slowly with force, drops vertically, is obliged to wait awhile before it passes, bladder weak, unable to finish it.

-Cold extremities, Raynaud’s syndrome.

-Skin-Tendency to suppurate.

-Very sensitive to touch.

-Chapped skin, with deep cracks on hands and feet.

-Ulcers very sensitive to contact, burning, stinging, easily bleeding.

-Can’t bear to be uncovered (even one part of the body), wants to be wrapped up warmly.

-Chronic and recurring urticaria. Urticaria preceding or also with chill, disappears as heat begins.

Abscess, Acne, Adenopathy, Agoraphobia, Asthma, Balanitis, Blepharitis, Bronchitis, Croup, Eczema, Iritis, Laryngitis, Mastitis, Otitis media, Paronychia, Pharyngitis, Pleurisy, Pneumonia, Prostatitis, Rectal abscess, Sinusitis, Tonsillitis, Urethral stricture, Urethritis.

-It has been used for chronic malarial poisoning that has been maltreated with calomel and quinine.

In otitis media, in the adolescence, give Hepar sulph- Dr. Foubister.
